As a mom of three I know only too well that our to-do lists are endless! There is always another meal to cook, another new pile of laundry waiting, and another mess to clean up. But here’s a little secret: getting outside (even for just 30 minutes) can do wonders for your mental health, your kids’ energy levels, and your overall well-being.

Why you should go outside (Even when it feels impossible)

1. Fresh air = Fresh mindset
Being stuck at home often means being surrounded by the never-ending visual reminder of things that still need to be done. Going outside helps you get rid of that mental load and reset your mood.

2. Sunlight boosts energy
Natural light helps regulate sleep, improves mood, and gives you that much-needed vitamin D. Even a short walk around the block can make you feel  refreshed Don’t believe me? Give it a try 🙂

3. Exercise = Happy kids
Running, jumping, and exploring help your kids burn off extra energy, which means fewer meltdowns and better sleep. And you get some exercise too!

4. It breaks the routine
Staying at home all day can sometimes feel suffocating. A quick trip to the park, a walk in the neighborhood, or even just sitting outside in the garden with a cup of coffee while the kids play, makes a big difference.

My tips for getting outside (more) quickly

  • Get everyone and everything ready in the morning: Make sure everyone, including the baby, is already dressed in the morning. Always keep your diaper bag packed and your water bottles ready. That way, everything will go more smoothly if you suddenly want to go outside.
  • Morning walks: Start the day with a short walk (or cycle) to school or daycare to wake up your body and mind.
  • Outdoor snack time: Have your snacks outside, picnic style! Even if it’s just in your backyard or on your balcony.
  • Playground pit stops: Ever had your little ones complain about how tired they are on the way home? Even a 20-minute break in the park can work wonders. Suddenly, when they see the playground, they run off and start playing! It’s a recharge for them.
  • Errands with a twist: Walk instead of driving when possible! Take the stroller or even the bikes!

Next time you feel overwhelmed by everything that still needs to be done at home, grab the kids, step outside, and take a breath. The chores will still be there when you get back, but you’ll tackle them with a clearer mind and a lighter heart.

From one mom to another, you got this! 💛

Lots of Love,

Sarah
